Skeletons of unfinished buildings

Skeletons of unfinished buildings everywhere, cranes of different sizes all around, broken fences around neglected construction sites.

This is a typical picture of Novosibirsk today, and not only in the outskirts, but in the city center as well, where a lot of new business centers were projected.  Building boom of the beginning on the new century finished in a moment, when the world economic crisis broke out. Only a little more than a year ago numerous banks happily distributed mortgage credits, and today perplexed future owners of new flats have no ideas of both where to take money to pay the credit back and of the fact if they can ever see their flat ready. Almost all construction in the Siberian capital, like everywhere in Russia, was carried out thanks to mortgage payments, and it is easy to understand now what has become of it.

Those who used to have a good salary and enjoy their lives a couple of years ago are desperate now, as there is almost nothing left after the monthly mortgage payment is brought to the bank. And what is worse,  there is almost no hope to move to a new flat in the near future as all construction sites just stay empty, no work is done. They say that the crisis in most countries is over. Well, Novosibirsk is looking forward to having it over here too.
