Siberia. Brides.

The celebration of the 115th anniversary of the city of Novosibirsk was accompanied by the brides’ parade, an event, which attracted more than 100 couples who decided to yoke in marriage on this very day, right in the city center, to ovations of thousands of spectators.

The action was followed by a show of balloons made in the form of a huge heart, and accompanied by beautiful music, heard everywhere in the city center.

A luxurious and magnificent event, view of beautiful and happy young ladies in white glittering dresses made the audience forget for a moment, that hardly a half of newly founded families manage to celebrate their 5th anniversaries. The rate of divorces is getting higher and higher each year, and now it is approaching 50 %. About a quarter of marriages terminate in less than a year after the wedding, which in some cases eats up the lion’s share of the parents’ budget.

A lot of surveys conducted in Siberia show that a family is no longer a value among young people. It becomes clear from their answers that a wedding is often just a show with a white dress, a limousine and a photo session. It doesn’t take young people long to understand they are strangers for each other. A divorce is no longer perceived as a tragedy.

What will Novosibirsk look like in the coming decade? Will it be a city of families or a city of singles?
